During Term 1, for a few weeks, Year 2 GATS writers met for a short session to work on their writing. Their brief was to create news for the school, and to share with you their favourite places around the school.
A place for Year Two to eat
Image: My special place at school is the Year Two eating area near our classrooms. It is my special place because I feel safe and I can smell fresh air and plants. I can hear birds singing and tweeting in the trees. I also hear people talking about happy things. It makes me feel happy. I see tall trees growing so tall and I also see colourful benches that we are so lucky to have. In my special place I eat my lunch on the smooth grass or on a table. When the bell goes we play games or talk about what to do. Lots of people love this place. My special place has fake grass and a big tree right in the middle. It looks happy and friendly. It makes you feel welcome. I love my special place because my friends love to play there. Everybody is happy and excited to come out to eat and play. (By Chiara)
The Oval is Popular
Image: My happy place is on the oval. I feel excited, protected, and free. There are four goal posts as well. It feels fresh and I love running really fast in the fantastic air. In my special place play super fun soccer. I also enjoy being out on the green oval. I score goals against the other team and do tricks, but best of all is running with the white, red and yellow ball. Lots of people play in my special place. The oval is really green with huge greener trees around it. Some grass is little and some is tall. There are four ways onto the oval. The oval is very popular. (By Eoin)
Green and Grassy
Image: My favourite place at school is the oval. I see tall trees and short trees. I also smell lots of air. I can hear birds tweeting and amazing laughter. In my place lots of people run really fast. That must be their favourite thing to do. I colour in at the end of the oval as well. I love it because there are so many things to do. It looks green and grassy. (By Charlotte)
Delicious Smells at the Canteen
Image: My favourite place at school is my canteen. It’s my special place because there are the delicious smells of high quality rich food that you can buy. I like it because I feel cosy, warm or cold. In my special place people rush in to buy food. The food is so delicious although I rarely eat in the my canteen. Sometimes people play Beyblades on chairs. My canteen is a big round box. The windows and entrance are bars it is made out of bricks. It is two kids high and approximately ten kids long. There are lots of chairs and tables in my canteen. (By Harry)
Building in the Sandpit
Image: My favourite place is the K-2 sandpit. I see sand that is either dry or wet, and wood chips. I smell salty damp sand and natural smells. I hear people talking to other people and laughing at jokes. I feel excited, happy and calm. In my special place I build sand cities, sand castles and other designs. Other people laugh like us. I also like how I can build anything I want. It is a popular spot. (By Jin)
Adventure on the Climbing Equipment
Image: My special place is the K-2 playground. I see orange, black and green colours and equipment, flowers, plants and daffodils. I can smell lots of daffodils and lots of leaves that smell like mint. My favourite part is the most adventurous place where you climb. My most favourite thing to hear is birds tweeting. When I go to the K-2 playground I feel excited and adventurous to play and have fun. What I do, I climb up and down on the equipment and I have fun. (By Tahlia)
COLA Colouring with Kids
Image: My favourite place at the school is the hall COLA. It is my special place because I hear birds tweeting in their nests. I smell the air rushing towards me and I see people playing with each other. It makes me feel calm as the sea. In my special place I can do skipping with my friends. We colour in there and also play Chinese Whispers. Other people play handball. My special place looks like it has a house inside it. The reason is because it has a big hall attached to it. (By Emily)
